Touring one of the most beautiful and majestic palaces in the world, the Peterhof Palace of St. Petersburg in Russia, is such an amazing experience. Probably recognized as Russia’s most famous landmark next to Moscow’s St. Basil’s Cathedral, Peterhof is just plain beautiful and inspiring (not to mention that almost everything is made of gold). The palace and its grounds have also been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are among the most popular tourist attractions in St. Petersburg. Wow!
It has already been a tradition in Imagine Cup to have a ‘Cultural Day’ at the World Finals. It is a day where world finalists and attendees from all over the world get to experience the culture of the host country and visit popular landmarks and attractions of the city. Our first stop was the Shuvalovka traditional Russian village, which was a 30-minute drive from the city of St. Petersburg.
Day 1: En Route to St. Petersburg, Russia
Travelling has always been my therapy. Going through immigration in the airports might be a hassle but it can also be an adventure. This trip, specifically, is the most thrilling adventure I have embarked so far. I’ve been to amazing places across the globe before but I have never tried travelling solo.
My recent trip to St. Petersburg, Russia last July 6-13, 2013 as a member of the elite and biggest multi-national social media team of the world, the MSP Social Media Team, is really an incredible and one-of-a kind experience. Not only that I was given the opportunity to travel to Russia but I am grateful that I also got the chance to work with a really diverse team composed of students with different cultures and nationalities. I am also grateful I got to represent the university and the country again as well.
The MSP Social Media Team is comprised of 18 Microsoft Student Partners from across the globe handpicked by Microsoft to spread the word and cover the Imagine Cup, the world’s premier and biggest student IT competition, through social media on a student-to-student coverage. The MSP Social Media Team, or simply MSPSMT, is the biggest multi-national social media team of the world to date. I am very grateful that I was selected to be part of the elite team and represented the Philippines and the Asia Pacific region as well.
